Kara S. Allen Music Studio

My Piano Teaching Method
I am a certified Suzuki teacher, member of SAA, SAU and NMFC. I believe that the Suzuki method is a beautiful way to teach musicality through proper technique. I also love the connection that the Suzuki method encourages between parent, teacher and student and also with students and teachers across the state.
I have used many, many different methods to teach note reading and have pulled the best of each from my 25+ years teaching experience. All children learn differently and approaching note reading from many different angles has proven to be very effective in becoming literate at the piano.
Piano sessions includes instruction on theory, rhythms, note reading, scales, note identification, fun/popular pieces (like Disney!) and Suzuki Piano pieces.

About Kara
Kara Southwick Allen started playing the piano at age three, taught by her mother, Norene Southwick, who was among the first Suzuki teachers in Utah. She began playing the flute at age eleven and enjoyed being in many bands and symphonies through high school and college. Her love of music and conducting took her to Brigham Young University where she received a Bachelors Degree in Music Education. She decided to put her new teaching skills to use as a private piano instructor. She has been teaching Suzuki Piano since 2001, is an active member of the Suzuki Association of Utah. She has especially enjoyed the training and mentoring received by Elaine Worley and Karlyn Brett. She has been a part of the Oregon Suzuki Institute Piano Faculty and is a Music Director for Bluffdale City Arts and Bluffdale Elementary. She lives in Bluffdale, Utah with her amazing husband and six beautiful children, all of whom play the piano.
